Life Happens. Sometimes you just have to write about it.

Right before the November election I wrote a blog post, Trump Spoke to Me Last Night. It was about the very last presidential debate and my reaction as a mother of a multicultural family, the wife of an immigrant, and a woman who has had an abortion. In the post I asked how our country will treat a family like mine if Trump were to be elected President of the United States.

Tomorrow is his inauguration and none of my questions have been answered.  For that reason, I will march. Not because I don’t support our democratic system. Or because I’m mad my candidate didn’t win. I’m going to march to remind our President that I exist. That my family matters. That we are all important.

I march because although I am nervous, worried even, about the divisiveness of our country right now and about the seemingly uninformed, apathetic tone of President Trump when he talks/tweets about families like mine, I still have hope that enough people will stand up and protect each other. But hope isn’t enough. Sometimes you have to get off your butt and remind people that you are part of the fabric.

I will march.

I will march because I am patriotic.

I will march because I believe in equality.

I will march because I am a mother.

I will march because I matter.

I will march because like thousands of others, I have had the horrendous experience of having an abortion.  A right I wish no one ever needed.

Saturday, I will march.

I hope to see you there.
